Metronode has a great start to 2017 as NSW Government signs to expand its data centre capacity

The new year has started with a bang for Australia’s leading data centre company, Metronode, with the announcement today that the NSW Government will considerably expand its capacity in two of its facilities in 2017.

Managing Director Josh Griggs said Metronode had signed to provide additional data halls for the GovDC program at its Silverwater and Unanderra (Wollongong) facilities with construction beginning early this year.

“Metronode has housed NSW Government data since the GovDC program began in 2012 at both facilities. We constructed another data hall in Unanderra in 2015 to provide additional capacity and we are now further expanding both facilities in 2017,” Mr Griggs said.

Metronode has the most energy efficient data centres in Australia with three of its facilities awarded NABERS 4.5-star ratings – Silverwater and Unanderra in NSW and Derrimut in Victoria – a major factor in the NSW Government’s decision to partner with the company.

“Energy efficiency is a key deliverable for the GovDC program and our engineered technologies, along with our superior security systems, have more than satisfied the Government’s requirements,” Mr Griggs said.

Derek Paterson, the NSW Government Director for GovDC, said “our priority is driving digital innovation to improve access to services for the citizens of NSW. We are pleased that this additional capacity will support more agencies and allow services to be added to the GovDC Marketplace, helping us to meet our objectives”.

NABERS is an Australian rating system, managed nationally by the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage on behalf of Federal, state and territory governments, that measures the environmental performance of Australian buildings.
