Metronode, Australia’s number one, carrier neutral data centre provider with 10 facilities in seven cities, has become the first data centre provider in the Asia Pacific region to be awarded Uptime Institute’s Tier III Gold Certification of Operational Sustainability for the Silverwater and Illawarra facilities.

The company was also the first in Australia to achieve Uptime Institute Tier III Certification of Constructed Facility in 2012 and now in 2015, Metronode has more Tier III facilities than any other provider in Australia.

Metronode has four sites with Tier III Certification of Constructed Facility including Silverwater, Melbourne, Perth and Illawarra. The newly-opened Canberra DC is currently in the final stages of assessment for Tier III Certification of Constructed Facility.

Uptime Institute has provided best practice certifications for data centre design and management since 1993. Pioneering many innovations that are now industry standards, Uptime Institute is also responsible for publishing the world’s definitive benchmark specification for data centre operations, maintainability, and fault tolerance.

Metronode is leading the way in Australia for data centre industry certifications also achieving, earlier this year, ISO27001 information security management certification covering the facility management and operations for of nine data centres.

Industry certifications are becoming increasingly important, according to CEO David Yuile, as more and more companies look to move data operations off site.

“Uptime Institute is a globally-recognised organisation that defines industry standards and Metronode is setting the benchmark in the Asia Pacific region,” Mr Yuile said.

“Data centre growth is expected to double in 2015 and clients are demanding proof that facilities and operations are of the highest quality. Long-term reliability is imperative to daily operations and we wanted to ensure we measured our business practices against the highest global standards.

“Uptime Institute Tier Certification of Operational Sustainability makes Metronode the only choice for customers requiring cloud-ready facilities to enable access to critical applications,” he said.

“Metronode continues to distinguish itself and its commitment to operational excellence is evident with not one, but two, facilities obtaining Tier III Gold Certification of Operational Sustainability,” said John Duffin, Uptime Institute Managing Director for South Asia.

“Achieving Tier Certification of Operational Sustainability verifies that practices and procedures are in place to avoid preventable errors, maintain IT functionality and support effective site operation.”
