  • The entire Unanderra project will be completed in 10 months from start to finish, highlighting Metronode’s market-leading rapid construction capability

As more and more companies look to move ICT infrastructure offsite and adopt cloud solutions, one provider is spending millions of dollars in infrastructure projects with the construction of three new data centres in Sydney, Melbourne and Wollongong.

Onsite at the latest construction site at Unanderra Wollongong today, Metronode CEO David Yuile said his company was currently the fastest to build from start to finish of any other provider in Australia.

“We are in the final stages of an 8MW expansion in Melbourne for a major international customer constructed in record time and the Unanderra build will be completed by November 2017.

“The speed in which we can build our world-class facilities is an important factor for our customers who need confirmed availability.

“Metronode data centres offer state-of-the-art, technologically-superior facilities to help our customers grow and scale at speed. Our facilities are also a natural fit for hyperscale cloud providers.

“Flexibility, security and agility is more important than ever to transform businesses and capacity is a distinct advantage because we provide our customers with certainty if they experience unforecasted demand,” Mr Yuile said.

Metronode has had a data centre in Unanderra for several years, with NSW Government GovDC as the major tenant.

However, with the construction of the second data hall, there will now be co-location services available for Illawarra enterprise and commercial customers as well as GovDC.

“Metronode has been trusted by the NSW Government to build and operate data centres since 2012, helping them to consolidate 160 data centres into two Metronode facilities. We look forward to welcoming local Illawarra businesses into our new Unanderra hall,” Mr Yuile said.

“The two built-for-purpose data centres in Silverwater and Unanderra deliver the highest standards in security, availability and efficiency to the public sector,” said Derek Paterson, Director of Government Digital Communities and Marketplace Services.

“Energy-efficiency is a key feature of our data centres, with the Unanderra and Silverwater facilities awarded an impressive NABERS 4.5 data centre rating. The GovDC program has been hugely successful and Metronode’s expansion is timely as the demand for data centres grows.”

The new facility at Unanderra will be completed in November 2017.

*Metronode was named as the Best Data Centre Operator at the 2017 CommsDay Edison Awards.
