The Year that was…
As the curtain draws closed on 2017, Metronode is celebrating its most successful year ever, having grown to have more than 60MW of site capacity now available.
With two major awards confirming its marketplace position as Australia’s leading data centre provider, the completion of a $150m construction program in two States, land expansion in Perth, a fourth NABERS 4.5 data centre star and the launch of a new customer portal, the last 12 months has been a hive of activity.
And here is 2017 in review:-
January – The NSW Government announced it would considerably expand its capacity in two of Metronode’s facilities – Silverwater, Sydney and Unanderra, Wollongong; We also finalised arrangement for the Federal Government to take space in our Canberra facility.
February – Preparatory works began on the Derrimut, Melbourne site to mark the start of construction of a new 8MW hyper-scale facility to house a major international customer.
March – Metronode is announced as Australia’s Best Data Centre Operator at the inaugural CommsDay Edison Awards.
April – Work began on the construction of new data halls in Unanderra, Wollongong and Silverwater Sydney.
May – Metronode reveals its unique cooling technology has resulted in the lowest PUE in its Tier III facilities across Australia.
June – As the financial year draws to a close, Metronode continues to maintain its enviable 100% uptime record, something it has proudly maintained since 2002.
July – Metronode’s $150M infrastructure construction program is announced at Unanderra, Wollongong with the Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbery. NSW Government congratulates Metronode for working with its GovDC initiative to consolidate 130 data centres into two facilities.
August – The NSW GovDC data centre consolidation program is recognised as the blueprint for security, availability and efficiency by the AIIA in Western Australia; Metronode announces the acquisition of more land at the Shenton Park Perth site to accommodate growing demand from the WA Government and corporate customers.
September – Metronode completes its Derrimut build in just nine months, the fastest data centre construction from start to finish of any provider in Australia;
October – Metronode is awarded a NABERS 4.5 data centre rating for its Perth Shenton Park facility, the only provider in Australia with four facilities with NABERS 4.5 data centre ratings. Metronode also completes the separation from Nextgen Networks following the sale in 2016.
November – The second data centre is completed in the Unanderra Wollongong site, opening the doors of the world-class facility to business. In the west Metronode is selected by Vocus Communications to land the ASC subsea cable at Shenton Park, linking Singapore to Perth via Indonesia; Metronode is named in the Top 5 data centre providers for resilience globally by Cloudscene.
December – Metronode wins the Frost & Sullivan 2017 Australia Excellence Awards – Data Centre Service Provider of the Year title; the third data centre is completed and operational on the Silverwater Sydney site.
